2_D

This page consists of work from 2D Game Design with the use of Adobe Flash, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. The Axaur Project was an individual effort to demonstrate the ability to design, illustrate and program the concept of an Action Side Scrolling RPG. Rogue Painter was an Online Puzzle game, where I was in charge of the characters' design, illustration and animation. Rugged High was a Short RPG Mobile Phone game to address the multiple issues in NZ high school, using the concept of Serious Gaming.

Illustration

This illustration I did for a competition forward to me from Deviantart for the game Rift. The idea was to create a colossal size boss based on 1 of the 6 elementals available, where I have chosen water (with a hint of air and death). I desided on a blimp like creature that float as a form of travel (which I believe is rare for monsters).

This was inspired by Ryu's fight at the first World Warrior tournament. I did not realise until recently that Ryu had succumbed to his darker side and used Metsu Shoryuken on Sagat, who was actually going to help him up.

Axaur

This character was designed to be one of the enemy commonly encountered in the game. This creature is a mixture of axolotl and an African Zulu warrior, with characteristics of a gorilla.

This link below takes you to the basic version of the game where you get to control this character.

Left - Right : Walk
Up : Jump
Down : Duck
Spacebar : Switch planes

Rogue Painter

Rogue Painter was a puzzle platform game developed in a team of 6 students. Your character is graffiti artist which has to traverse through different environments and liven up the world which has become dull. Your goal is to change the environment with your footsteps and collect stencils which will complete the missing pieces. I was in charge of the character design and animation.

The opacity of the final character was turn down so he blends in with the environment more in gameplay, making him look more like an animated stencil on the wall. I also had to design the enemy, which is the corrupted city's cleaner what appears after a period of time has past during the game. (But was not used in the end due to time restrictions.)

This is the link to the final game we ended with.

(You must complete all the floor tiles and stencil to proceed to the next stage. Unfortunately the game has a few programming bugs which freezes the character in random places and actions.)

Enjoy!

Rugged High

Rugged High is a role-playing schoolyard simulation game, designed to educate New Zealand high school male students the importance of balancing their academic work with their athletic activities. Your aim is to finish the school on a high and win the rugby finals. The player will engage in a variety of mini games, with dynamic difficulties which becomes more challenging the more you play. The non-linear story will be told through the perspective of a transferred student, where you get to choose how the story will unfold according to the decisions that you make through the game.
